Thanks & Giving

Dear Friends & Fellow Rascals (aging or otherwise),

It seems like just yesterday that I commented on All Souls Day and the busy month of November ahead of us.  And yet here we are … Approaching the final week of a month that brought us both hope and horror; a month in which we got to exercise our fragile, tho’ still inalienable right to Vote, to remember & honor those among us who served in the military, and to celebrate the 80th birthday of our country’s President.

Earlier this month I shared Joyce Sutphen’s poem about not knowing what comes next … and sure enough,  many of us woke on Sunday morning, the day set aside for Transgender Remembrance, to learn that five more precious lives had been viciously and tragically taken by the power of an assault rifle in the hands of hate, not only from the LGBTQ+ community, but from our world itself, and that this was happening even as winter seemed to join forces with enemy missiles, continuing to brutalize the people of Ukraine.

This week as we prepare for Thursday’s Day of Thanks&Giving and Friday’s Celebration of Native American Heritage, some of us took time out yesterday to remember where we were 59 years ago on that bright sunny day in Dallas, Texas when America’s Camelot ended forever.

And so it seems fitting, rather than making the unveiling of my new book, All In The Soup Together, a ‘big deal’ (it is a big deal, but we can put it off for a few days), that I ask you all, instead, to check out the links that follow.  There are just three of them, they won’t take a whole lot of your time, and I’d like to believe that what they have to say will warm your hearts & spirits (especially Amanda Gorman’s beautiful presence) as much, if not more, than a collection of recipes & reflections that you can just as well see on our upcoming Saturday Special.
