Reviewing Summer

The rains have finally come as we knew they would.  Fall has arrived … better late than never. Even Indian Summer has its limits.  My ballot for Oregon’s mid-term elections arrived in Monday’s mail, tomorrow my postcards urging registered voters to Vote will go out, and if all happens ‘according to plan’, I will be joining my Raging Granny Sisters on one of Portland’s busiest streets to encourage more of our fellow citizens to exercise their voting privilege as well.

So … this week there’s nothing new in “Inspirations”. Instead,  I decided to re-examine all that we’ve posted over these past few months … kind of a Quarterly Review.  In late July I sent a letter introducing the website to a few dozen of my ‘rascal’ friends.  This is what it said.

Many thanks (BIG THANKS) to my dear ‘Granny” friend and fellow writer, Steph Bairey for constructing my website which continues to unfold as a kind of ‘neighborhood clearing house’ for posting notices of events, conversations, and links to performances, visual art, & readings that might touch the hearts of creative rascals & occasional writers of all ages.

In addition, as might be expected, the site serves as a little online bookshop for my Words That Dance and Arms Filled With Bittersweet. (I really try not to support Amazon) It will also publicize my online writing adventures and beach retreats. But perhaps more importantly, it is designed to inform and raise visitors’ awareness of social issues and creative growth opportunities … a little bit of everything from comic relief to deep philosophical reflections.

I like what we’ve done and I hope you do too, from comic relief (Older Ladies) to deep philosophical reflections (September Elegy). I’d be really grateful if you would take just a few minutes to

to what you’re seeing, what you’d like more of and what you haven’t seen yet that you’d like to.

Soon we expect to create a new section promoting “Local to Oregon Events” and to offer another “Conversation With Friends” featuring the celebrated dramatist Cindy Williams Guiterrez, whose most recent work is the very powerful In the Name of Forgotten Women.

And … oh yes, by the way, I’m working diligently on my third book …. hopefully ready for holiday gifting.  It’s called All In The Soup Together: Four Seasons of Recipes & Reflections.  Yup. It’s a collection of my favorite soups from around the world and my own little kitchen. As you might expect, there will be a poem to accompany each season.

Make it a good week, Dear Friends. And don’t let what passes for ‘news’ these days get you down. There is still much Good in the world and much Joy to be had.  Maybe this will help.
